Knockainey v Kilmallock United
Knockainey crowned U14 Div1 Champions
Under 14 Division One 06/04 18:30
Knockainey 5 - 0 Kilmallock United
It was an awful day of rain, hail, sunshine and back to rain again how could the field take such an important game this evening in Knockainey as the Under14 try to win the league. The field help up really well and the ref call the game to start. Knockainey started really well with an early goal dismissed for offside. It was not long before we struck again and opened the scoring. Our midfield of Patrick Reale and John Egan were hungry for the ball and their runs from midfield seemed to be causing some problems for Kilmallock. Patrick Reale got his reward with a very well taken strike from outside the box that beat the Kilmallock keeper. As always Owen Cleary was working his socks off up front and he was rewarded with two goals to add to his season tally.

Our wingers in Jordan Dineen and Stephen O Donnell were making so many runs on and off the ball that there was a track on the wings that will take some time to repair, they were brilliant on the night. The ever impressive Ethan Dorney just back from injury was reading the game and breaking up so much of the Kilmallock lads play it was unreal. His awareness and distribution of the ball was very good. our four amigos in the back who have had such a great season were once again outstanding.

Daniel Frape was immense, Dara O Keeffe was sublime, Brian Blackwell was brilliant and the ever so hard working Dylan O Leary was awsome at full back. Oh captain my captain, what can i say about our captain David (Cookie) Cooke always talking to the boys in front of him, always a good word of praise for them and keeping a clean sheet, fair play Cookie and a very well done captain. Our subs on the night all got game time with Jamie Gubbins filling in very well at full back, Thomas Ryan taking over from Owen Cleary upfront, David O Donovan who came in on the wing for Jordan Dineen and Aidan O Riordan coming on the wing and scoring the goal of the game with a sublime chip over the keepers head from outside the 18 yard box.

Well done to the coaches Pat Dunne, Pat Reale and Eoghan O Donnell on a great season for our team of boys, for our club and for all the parents thanks for having the boys available and ever ready. Cup game against Knocklong/Hospital Saturday week to look forward to. Well done all

Castle United 2 - 1 Kilmallock United

Castle 15s flew out of the blocks against Kilmallock, quickly setting and maintaining a high tempo. The chances inevitably followed. Shane O Sullivan was unfortunate not to get on the end of a ball played across the goal. A superb solo run from Fergal O Connor nearly provided the opener, only for his effort to be blocked. Both flanks provided width and quality, while Josh O'Brien did an excellent job of leading the line. A Kilmallock corner led to a swift counter-attack as Shane carried the ball the length of the field but was denied by an excellent last-ditch tackle. The half ended with another near miss. It seemed the persistent problem of failing to convert chances would once again haunt Castle.

Not so. Early in the second half Shane won a free kick. Jimmy Quilty played a great ball into the box. The opposition defence failed to clear and Shaun Moloney stepped up to smash it into the back of the net, much to the delight of the players and supporters. However, moments later Kilmallock pulled level when a ball into the Castle box wasn’t dealt with. Castle resumed their dominance. The pressure led to the award of a free kick on the edge of the opposition box. Shaun whipped in a wonderful ball. It was met by the head of Adam McDonnell who guided it expertly beyond the outstretched ‘keeper. That was enough to secure a very welcome result. An excellent display all round.
