U14 Gaynor cup games

Day 1

Galway

Our first game was against a well backed Galway side. Our girls were under pressure from the off but the midfield and defence were awesome and worked so hard for the team. Our Keeper was outstanding in both halves using her height very well and keeping us in the game in the first half. 0-0 HT. Second half the County girls pushed forward and created some chances of their own but again the Galway defence were strong. then came to opener a very well taken strike by the Galway #10 after winning the ball on the right wing ran towards goal and slotted to the keepers right. good goal. Again our girls pushed and pushed but were caught again with a second great chip of our keeper late on. 2-0 win for Galway but our girls put up some fight.

Day 2

Limerick District

It was a local derby with county v district which unfortunately the county girls lost 1-0.District scored early on in the first half but after they scored it was all pressure from the county girls. 1-0 HT. Second half the girls continued where they left off. All the ball playing was from county girls but again it was a disappointing result for the girls.1-0 District but the girls and coaches had to be happy with the effort and passion the girls showed. 1-0 win for District

North Tipp

I am sure the management of the county would have thought that this game against near county Tipp would be a hard game but one we could get a result. the game was end to end with county having two out and out strikers occupying the back line of north Tipp. 0-0 Ht great game. Second half and again county pushing to break the duck as they had not scored yet in the cup. 20 yards out from the Tipp goal and a decision you did not get from the ref North Tipp head down the right wind and bang, Caoimhe Hartnett is beaten. Lots of calls to the ref but were all in vain. 1-0 win for Tipp

Day 3

The final day had approached faster than anticipated. With great feelings of anticipation we embarked on our journey to the pitches for our final game/games. We met NEC on pitch 2 @12.30pm we needed a win here to progress to the next stage . Luck was on our side from the moment the whistle blew for KO . Straight on the attack the team pushed forward, pressing from the start. With our wingers and central mids communicating at all times our first goal was scored, a cracker by Laura Lyons. NEC came back strong and kept our defenders on their toes for some time but were unsuccessful . We went on to score another 3 goals . Scorers by Laura Lyons, Cara Griffin, Emma Barrett.

Fantastic game with worthy opponents .

We then had our next match @2.30pm on pitch 4 against Carlow.

This was a nail biting game, we worked well up front with a 2-0 lead in the second half, Carlow came back fighting and made our defence work hard to defend off their forwards, they came back with 2 goals making us tied. Pressure was on to score another and we were not left down when we went into the lead again and in the final few mins we scored again . With the final whistle blown it finished with 4-2. Scorers Emma Barrett, Laoise NiAodha and 2 from Laura Lyons.
