U13 LETP UL 11 Dec 2016

Limerick Desmond hosted yesterday's blitz which was held at Newcastle West.

4 teams took part, Limerick Desmond, Clare, South Tipperary and Limerick County.

Again, most outfield players got 100 minutes or more of football, with 75 minutes being the least amount. Although these games are non competitive, everyone in attendance might think otherwise as all games are fiercely contested.

In our first game we played Clare. We started well and Shane O' Riordan (Charleville)almost scored within 30 second on his return to the squad. His pace and direct running was a features of all games yesterday. We went 1 goal up with a well worked set piece goal that was set up by Killian Ahern and absolutely rifled to the net from an acute angle by Harry Fox. Harry played 2 consecutive 50 minute games yesterday and was a constant threat in both games and probably merits a man of the match award for both games. Clare came back strongly and scored an equaliser mid way through the second half.

In our second game we played South Tipperary who are proving to be a tough nut to crack for us. We went a goal up in this game with a brilliant strike from outside the box by John English, created all by himself after skipping through a few tackles in the midfield area. South Tipp equalised with a freakish goal that took a few rebounds before hitting the net. This was followed by 2 more that our GK, Cian Smith could do very little about. Overall, this wasn't a bad performance and so we moved on to our last game.

In this we played our hosts Limerick Desmond who had already beaten South Tipp 3-0 and Clare 6-3. We played well in this game and scored 2 goals early in the match. John English was again on target from the spot after being taken down himself. Paddy Bermingham also scored after an excellent right wing cross from Cathal O' Mahony. Euan Sheridan and Paddy Kennedy (Captain) marshalled the defence well and we saw out the game with this score line.

A lot of really good performances on the day, Darragh O'Brien, Euan Dillon, Ultan Hogan, Paddy Bermingham and Euan Sheridan to name a few. But overall, these young guys are progressing well and these Inter League friendlies are proving invaluable. Next up are Clare in January and then our first competitive fixture of 2017 in February v Limerick Desmond.
