U13 LETP Clare blitz 15.01.2017

County u13s had their 3rd development blitz of four today in Tulla Utd grounds in Clare. Despite the poor weather some terrific football played.

1st game Limerick County 3-1 Limerick Desmond . We went behind early in this game from an old friend & squad member Adam Hickey finishing well to put Desmond 1 up. We weren't behind for long with a great slide through ball by John English into Shane o' Brien who tucked it away. Shortly after County keeper Ultan Hogan was out bravely to collect a dangerous through ball and upon collection, released it long for Shane o'Brien to control expertly, run on and finish with a delicate lob over the keeper. Midway through the 2nd half a strong dribble from Paddy Kennedy deep into Desmond half & then played onto supporting Colin Quaid who quickly fed his club mate Shane o'Riordan to score a nice team goal & secured 3-1 result. Feature of this game outstanding performance's in particular from Cathal o'Mahony & Euan Sheridan.

Game 2. Limerick County 2-3 South Tipperary. Despite the loss this was probably the best overall performance on the day. We started bit slowly & conceded 2 soft goals from setpieces but this seemed to wake us up and we went on to press & play some great football through Harry Fox, Killian Ahern & Shane o'Riordan. Cian Smith made some important saves during this time as we went in harshly two down. Straight from the whistle to start 2nd half county were on the front foot with Noah Patterson & Paddy Kennedy driving their teammates on from the back, Both fullbacks Owen o'Sullivan & Ewan Dillon pushing on in support. Colin Quaid won the ball back strongly & fed Darragh o'Brien who in turn played in Onrushing John English who finished cooly - game on. Darragh o'Brien was having an immense game in the middle of the park & from one of his lung bursting runs forward , laid off to John English who played in Shane o'Brien who held off two defenders to power home the richly deserved equaliser. Five mins left & we went searching for the winner and unfortunately a cruel ricochet in our 18yrd box and Sth Tipp scored to win a terrific contest.

Game 3 Limerick County 2-1 Clare . Our 3rd & final game was against our hosts Clare , honestly a scrappy encounter, mainly probably some tired bodies playing on a now heavy surface in fairness. Despite this effort wasn't in short supply. We were creating some openings with Paddy Bermingham & Cathal o'Mahony on the wings getting in some terrific delivery's into the box which we were very unlucky not to capitalise on. Eoin o'Connor & Conor Hynes were very prominent in this game both in supporting our attack & in particular making some telling tackles to prevent us going behind.Ultan in goals also quick to snuff out any danger from through passes. Scoreless at the break, some fresh legs introduced and one of those made an immediate impact as Owen o'Sullivan latched on to a loose clearance to rifle in an unstoppable effort from some distance. Clare pressed for an equaliser but Jack McNamara the county keeper was in top form to deny them. Shane o'Brien was unlucky not to double our lead hitting the upright on two occasions also Colin Quaid & Cathal o'Mahony all going close as numerous chances came & went.We were eventually punished by the hard working young clare team with a clinical goal with only mins to go. But credit to County boys who undeterred went straight on the offensive and Paddy Bermingham went on a super run through , drew the keeper & squared for Shane o'Brien on a great support run to tap home the winner.

All in all a good day to further develop the boys football going forward & some more lessons to be learned which is always a good thing. Thanks to Tulla United a terrific host club venue with superb facilities.
