U13 interleague

Limerick County u13 boys got their 2017 interleague of to the perfect start at home on Sunday 5th feb versus neighbours Limerick Desmond with a 4-0 win.

County got off to a lightning start from the first whistle, Owen o`Sullivan playing in striker Shane o`Riordan who`s effort was well saved by Desmond keeper. Only four mins into the game County took the lead, when Darragh o`Brien won possession and immediately found Harry Fox who beat the fullback and tucked away a fine effort in off the far post. County were on top in the early exchanges and from a pinpoint Harry Fox free kick delivery shortly after capt Paddy Kennedy rose highest but unluckily headed over. County were on top in the middle of the park with John English, Owen o`Sullivan & Darragh o`Brien pressuring the opposition in to mistakes.

Twenty mins in and two super crosses from the rightwing in quick succession from Cathal o`Mahony after good link up play with his right full Eoin o`Connor resulted in another couple near misses with John English & Shane o`Riordan both going close .As the 1st half neared its end the Desmond got their period on top, but with Noah Patterson marshalling the defense along with fellow centre back & capt Paddy Kennedy the pressure resulted in no clear cut chances for Desmond, in fact the last chance of the half fell the home sides way when Ewan Dillon at left back who`s impressive overlapping runs were feature of the game, and from one of these another plus cross another near miss. Halftime County happy with the lead & performance but aware a 2nd goal was needed. IN to the 2nd half , Shane o`Brien added some fresh legs for county, also Desmond made some changes and they started the 2nd half brightly and forced a couple of early corners but County Keeper Cian Smith came and collected both with authority to relieve the pressure and also set us on the counterattack with Shane o`Brien unluckily off target from one such attack. With Referee Mark Kennedy doing a good job in letting the game flow aided by two teams playing positive football, the game was enjoyable to watch for the neutral .After showing their attacking prowess as fullbacks in the 1st half both Charleville boys Eoin o`Connor & Ewan Dillon were showing their defensive skills were no less early in the 2nd half. Midway through the 2nd half with Noah & Paddy leading from the back & the Midfield three of Darragh, John & Harry taking it on county retook control of the game and soon after the all important 2nd goal arrived from the same boot as the 1st, when Harry Fox after a great slalom run through the defense finished the rebound acrobatically after his initial shot had been saved. Killian Ahern & Colin Quaid added more fresh legs for county and with confidence now high chances were once more been created, With six mins left a terrific Colin Quaid through ball to Cathal o`Mahony who in turn played in the onrushing hardworking John English , John powered forward and finished expertly past the advancing keeper for a 3-0 lead. More good link up down the left side by Ewan Dillon & Killian Ahern sent Shane o`Brien in on goal an a deft chip by Shane over the onrushing keeper unfortunately hit the post, but shane immediately won back possession & played a superb backheel into the path of supporting winger Cathal o`Mahony who hammered home into the far corner for a deserved goal.Full time 4-0 to the home side, a good performance from the county boys, deserved winners who were well supported by the entire squad today, competition for places is hot in a tight knit squad , keeping everyone on their toes in both training & games coming up.
