Limerick County U12 Girls claim North Tipp Inter League Tournament

On Sunday last, the U12's Girls ETP squad travelled to take part in the North Tipperary Inter Divisional Tournaments which were held in Holycross FC. Fresh off the back of a very encouraging first outing in the Cork Inter-league blitz, the girls looked to this tournament to prepare for the forthcoming Gaynor Cup week qualifiers to be held in Newcastle West on May 13th. The girls would play matches against North Tipperary, South Tipperary, Midlands league and Limerick Desmond. With the top two teams taking their place in the final. There were to be two tournaments one for Limerick County 1 (blue team) and one for Limerick County 2 (White team).

Limerick County 2, came up against a tough Desmond league side going down 4-0, the next two were much tighter affairs, with very creditable performances drawing 0-0 with South Tipperary and narrowly going down 1-0 to the Midlands league, who would go onto win the final.

Limerick County 1 started with two good performances but unfortunate narrow defeats to both North and South Tipperary, but a place in the final was looking unlikely. However after victory over the Midlands league we were informed that to get into the final only a win in our remaining match would give us any chance.

Fresh off the back of their first victory and the carrott of playing Derby rivals Limerick Desmond league, the girls we're fired up and full of confidence. This confidence was very evident as the girls were just outstanding coming out 2-0 winners, courtesy of goals from Jodie Griffin and Eimear O'Donovan.

A place in the final awaited us against the Midlands league, with some excellent play between the two teams nothing could seperate them at full time, so it was onto penalties. Kelsey Reeves had both the honour of saving their first penalty and then scoring ours, then we missed our second and they scored, so all eyes on the last penalty which Jodie Griffin cooly stepped up and slotted into the right corner, this put huge pressure on the opposition to convert, but unfortunately for them the striker pulled the shot wide of the post and victory in the tournament was ours.

What all of these girls have shown in such a short space of time is testament to their intellegence, workrate and ability. Well done girls you can be very proud of yourselves.

Thanks to our hosts, opposition, coaches, parents and most importantly our players on a very successful day out.
